How It Works: Recipients

If you are one of a number of people uninsured or underinsured in the Philadelphia area and surrounding counties struggling to keep your head above water, you are not alone. Tell us your story and let your neighbors help you out.

  • Step 1: Fill out the Preliminary Intake Form
  • Step 2: The SOS Intake Coordinator will contact you once your information has been reviewed.
    If you qualify, there are two additional steps:
  • Step 3: Meet with the SOS Intake Coordinator to complete the full Intake Form and a HIPAA waiver
  • Step 4: SOS Intake Coordinator verifies your claims with billing agencies

That’s it. At that point, if your claims are verified, you send us your story and photo or image and you will be placed on the SOS website and social network pages for one month.

Potential recipients will only be able to submit one claim at a time and will only be able to submit a different claim only after all other potential recipient claims have been received and posted. Recipients can resubmit the same claim if monetary assistance is still needed only after other potential recipient claims have been reviewed and posted.

Claims will only be posted on the SOS website and social network pages for 30 days.

No guarantees will be made by SOS on how much monetary aid a potential recipient will receive toward a claim and all monetary aid will be based solely on internet-directed donations by web donors to that recipient’s SOS account.

All donations received will be verified by SOS by calling the the billing or collection agencies and institutions. 

All monetary assistance received by the recipient’s post will be sent directly to the treating facility, billing agency or other company within 30 days of the posting being taken off the site. In certain circumstances, SOS will send donations directly to the recipient – this will be the sole decision of SOS.

If donations come in for the recipient after the goal has been reached, they will be directed toward future recipients whose goals are not met and/or held in the SOS general fund. SOS administrators have the right to accept or deny any claims submitted or remove recipient claims from the SOS website or social network pages at any time.

Once the donation has been sent to the agency SOS will send you an email verifying the money has been sent.

10% of all donations made (after Pay Pal fees) may be reserved by Sink or Swim Philadelphia to cover costs.
